CHIC - "Le Freak" (On BBC's Top Of The Pops in January, 1979). From CHIC's "C'est CHIC" album (1978). Le Freak is Warner Music's biggest seller to date and the 5th biggest hit of the decade (70s) (Billboard charts: Pop#1, Black#1, Disco/Club#1). Written after having been denied entry to Studio 54 on New Years Eve 1977/78, where they were supposed to meet Grace Jones, who was performing that night, to talk about producing her. The song was originally entitled "Fuck Off" referring to the doorman at the club, but was changed to Le Freak, which was a popular dance style at the time. When Nile'n'Nard first brought it to the record co. execs they didn't like it at all and didn't want it to be the first single release from the album, but they persisted and we all know what happened. This song got me hooked on CHIC and I've been a fan ever since.
