CHIC OPENED OLYMPIC NATIONS PARADE
(Stockholm 11/02 06) CHIC's 'Good Times' was the song who accompanied the Greek athletes, in Italian Torino, as they began the parade of nations, a traditional part of every Olympic opening ceremony, then followed a medley of mostly 70s Disco ('Le Freak' was also on the menu). You all remember, in the Salt Lake City games (2002) closing ceremony they used 'We Are Family' prominently, then sung by Donny & Marie Osmond.

NEW COMPILATION OUT
(Stockholm 29/09 05) Luigi Melatti reports on another CHIC compilation that is out now. It is entitled 'Good Times - The Very Best Of CHIC & Sister Sledge - The Hits & The Remixes' and is published by CHIC's old label Warner/Atlantic. It is a 2 CD set. The first CD containing 7" or album versions of CHIC's & SS' biggest hits (but one wonders why they would include the pre-CHIC SS song 'Mama Never Told Me'?). And the second CD containing remixes, with what it seems one original 12" mix of 'Hangin'', actually the biggest reason to buy this compilation. My view is: one wonders when Warner will make a serious compilation, including all CHIC's (including CHIC Org. productions) 12" releases and different takes on big hits as well as acapella and instrumental versions of big hits. Or remastered special edition CD's of all CHIC albums. It is nice to get some of the remixes by different dj's & producers, but I can't help but think this is a very shoddy release. And I'm pissed at the label for such a lousy effort. As if there haven't been enough of BAD compilations released. And then the cover art makes me fume even more, was the tired disco ball emblem the most astonishing cover art the people at Warner could come up with? Can such people really be entrusted with the cultural treasure of CHIC's music legacy. I think not! I hope Warner gets its act together and release something worthy of CHIC's significance. Sorry for my somewhat graphic language, but I know many of you agree with me. Thank you Luigi for the news.

'REAL PEOPLE' RE-EVALUATION?
(Stockholm 20/07 05) Remember a couple of years back when CHIC's 'Real People' album got the thumbs up by the people at RollingStone.com when they designated it the 20th coolest album of all time? Well for an album that felt the full force of the anti-disco wave, and have by many (fans & foes) been regarded suspiciously and disparagingly it certainly has supporters and detractors in surprising quarters. In a review of Peter Shapiro's recently released book 'Turn The Beat Around-The Secret History Of Disco', reviewer Keith Harris of SeattleWeekly.com has this to say: "And if the delightfully glib (and often insightful) Nile Rodgers really does think that Chic's masterful 1980 album, Real People, is a step down from their earlier hits, that's just another reason not to trust a musician's judgment of his work." So even Nile has lost faith in this masterpiece? Well he should not. It is time for a re-evaluation of this extraordinary album.

NILE TALKS ABOUT THE NEW CHIC ALBUM
(Stockholm 18/07 05) Nile Rodgers talked about the new CHIC album slated for release in April 2006 during a guitar workshop at the Montreux Jazz Festival this year. He mentioned among other things that he had given one of the demo tracks from the Johnny Mathis (1981) album to The Shapeshifters to do a remix and rework of the track. That song is probably? 'Go With The Flow' which Nile talked about, having let DJ's listen to, in Daryl Easlea's book 'Everybody Dance-CHIC-And The Politics Of Disco' Apparently their version is ready so hopefully we can look forward to soon having a first taste of things to come. CHIC will also release a single of that song before the album release next year. Thanks to Béla Diós who attended the workshop we can all listen to Nile talk about the new CHIC album. "Collins was jet-lagged.""
